With the USA’s crumbling highway infrastructure problem getting worse, the question has to be asked. How will it be paid for? The inevitable answer is an increase in Federal gas taxes. But the gas tax hikes will be met with opposition. And if gas prices continue to rise, the window of opportunity may close. Last week was the first week in the past nine weeks that the nationwide average for gasoline prices rose. The national average for regular gas is around $2.50 per gallon, which is still 70 cents lower than it was a year ago. However, most analysts are predicting oil to continue to rise for the remainder of this year.

I realize big oil companies control prices by controlling their production, but if oil is between $50 and $60 a barrel then why is the cost of gas going up?

The suppliers tell the gas stations how much the gas is going to cost, and then the gas station owners set the prices. The gas station owners are trying to make a living too. But it starts with the suppliers.

People can't afford this! It's because of the gas companies raising their gas per gallon that alot of other companies can't collect their money each month from customers whether it be a phone bill, rent, grocery stores and retail stores suffering because of more money to put into gas tanks to get where they need to go, bill collectors can't get their money because of everybody's money going to Shell, Chevron, and BP gas stations taking everybody's money. Don't you agree? How do you expect the average American not to go into debt when he/she hasn't received a raise and the only raise is the gas prices per gallon?

Nobody even blame this on Obama I'm just saying this early.

Christ when Bush was in office it went over $4 a gallon.

Gas prices are rising all over the US and it went up 12 cents here in Raleigh. Although I got lucky an hour ago when I still found $1.81 a gallon. I put 8 gallons in my car. I know $2 a gallon is not expensive for gas by my standards but it's the fact that it went up that gets me. I would like it to not go up too far cuz I am planning a road trip to the DC area on April 5th. Then a drive back home April 7th.

Gas always goes up in the warmer months, because there is less of a demand for home heating fuel, and warm gas has higher volume than cold gas, so it's harder to ship, etc. Don't expect prices to go back down again until next winter.
