Search for gas prices by US Zip Code

Or, are they just full of empty promises again?
Make that "WHAT".

To answer your question;

They will tax Big Oil, prevent drilling of our own supplies in America. Pull US Forces out of Iraq and destabilize the mid-east…….

No wait, that only increases the price of gasoline. My Answer: Nothing, but make it worse. Nothing but empty promises.

I thought Hillary declared she'd tax the oil companies' profits.

As to what she does with that money is anyone's guess.

Obama will bring a swift conclusion to the occupation of Iraq. This alone will strengthen the USD and lower prices. Obama also told the big three that they will have to raise fuel economy standards. Obama will aggressively push America toward alternative energies and renewable fuels.

I think Hillary's plan had something to do with a gas tax holiday season transferring the tax to the companies which will force them to raise their prices.

Force the auto industry to raise the fuel efficiency standards and the average MPG of new cars produced(something Republicans have fought tooth and nail), put limits on oil company profits per gallon of gas sold, investigate price gouging and market manipulation.

Gasoline will NEVER be cheap again - no matter who is in office, no matter how much we drill.

Stem the costs? hell no. They'll push it up past $6 within a year of presidency, and don't forget about taxes. They'll suck this country dry and then give it up to China for a pack of gum.

I had the same fear. How can a politician control pricing in a free market society??

Both Hillary and Obama say they want to have the justice department examine the oil companies' books for price gauging and take them to task.

Obama has a plan in place to invest resources in research and development of alternate energy sources, eg Next Generation Biofuels. He also wants to increase fuel efficiency standards.

Hillary details : "An increase in fuel efficiency standards to 55 miles per gallon by 2030, and $20 billion of "Green Vehicle Bonds" to help U.S. automakers retool their plants to meet the standards."

It's going to get worse before it gets better, however. You can believe that. Any plan is going to be dissected and put through the ringer of bi-partisan politics before anything is done.

Oil is a product you import (until you have used up the rest of the worlds, and then you'll do Alaska)
Americans waste gas with the monster vehicles, and wasteful practices.
the UK pay twice as much, shouldn't they get a break first?

    Typos happen! :)

Hillary or Obama can do a lot–but not overnight. Also, they will need (and with the GOP out, will get) the help of Congress.

First–in the short term, we may or may not see decreases in the price of gas ("short, here, means about a 5-year average). In the long term, we have two choic and, thatis more or less th effect most of their policy proposals will have.es. One is to try to continue relying on fossil fuels for energy. If we do, our energy costs–as consumers and as a nation–will continue to rise, with all the negative economic and individual costs that implies.

Or we can take the route of free market capitalism. Which is what, in essence, Democrats in general are proposing, though specific policy suggestions are all over the board right now.

What do I mean by "free market capitalism?"

    >stop subsidizing the oil and coal companies
    >stop blocking construction of new nuclear power plants to protect the market of the coal industry from competition
    >to the extend that government policy affects energy production (which it will, even if you don't want it to) promote alternatives such as solar, tidal, and wind power. Open up the market to full scale competition between fossil fuels and other technologies.
    >stop catering to the oil companies by blocking funding for mass transit. We (most urban dwellars in the US) are the ONLY people in the industrialized world who don't have a CHOICE–a market of competing sources of transportation. We are mostly stuck with relying on the government run monopoly of automobile roads, and are denied a set of free market choices (BTW–mass transit can and often does operate as PRIVATE enterprise, unlike roads which are pretty much state run by necessity).

I could go on–but you get the idea, I think. Granted, shifting away from a government policy model that provides a protectd (monopoly ) status for fossil fuels, including gas/oil, will require a lot o finitiatives on the part of the government. You can't do it overnight. And, quite honestly, some Democratic initiaves will be more interventionist.

But that's the basic thrust of what Hillary, Obama, and mmost Democrats are saying.

A couple of othr points to think about:

    >focusing on alternative energy means creating that energy domestically. NOT on buying foreign oil, as the conservatives want us to continue doing.

    >we keep hearing the car companies talking about their "hybrid cars" And–most recently–their "technological advance" of making these cars "plug-ins."

The following is a bit long–bear with me. It's important to answer your question.

Hmmmmm. Now on the other hand, a high-tech start-up, Tessla motors, is marketing an ALL-ELECTRIC that gets 200 miles per charge, tops out at 125 mph–and is a "plug in" (te converter to use ordinary house current comes with the car. The intro model is a high-end sports car. The more utilitarian models are being developed to be marketed over the next 5 years.

Now, do you really believe that the gian't corporations like GM can't make an ac/dc converter you can plug into your house current to recharge a hybrid?

Here's a hint, if you aren't sure. That little box that comes with most electronics nowadays so you can plug them in and not just run on batteries. THAT's what is required. One for a car just has to be a bit bigger.

And the auto companies have spent 5 years telling us they need years of R&D to make a converter that is just a big version of the ones manufacturers throw in for free when you buy a $20 radio.

    Hmmmm again.

Okay–here's the point. Under current government policies, the fossil fuel industry, and important other special interests, have a protected market–they do not have to face real competition. And have no intentionof changing the actual technology they mrket. The "changes we get are smoke and mirrors, like the so-called plug-in hybrid marketed asa "innovation" wen electric cars that match gas-powered cars in performance are already on the market.

The basic thing Hillary, or Obama, can do is to open up the markets to fair and free competition.
