Search for gas prices by US Zip Code

do i have the legal right to demand my 0.1 penny back as change? 100% of every gas station I have ever seen prices to the tenth of a penny.
If not, it's false advertising and i should be allowed to sue them unmercifully. Am i correct or not?

Its called rounding. Its also manipulates people's minds because it looks cheaper than it actually is. I'm fairly sure its legal.

Unfortunately no. How much money do you think the state and federal government gets from gas stations in tax money? the answer is allot. The government makes more money off a gas station than an individual. The way you may be able to do it is through a class action suite. Talk to an attorney and start collecting signatures.

Actually, they don't round. They drop everything under a penny off of the total bill. Try purchasing exactly one gallon of gas at $3.099, and your total bill will be $3.09. If anything, you owe them. They can't legally charge you more than advertised, but they can charge you less.

The 9/10 penny for gas has been around for several decades….digital pumps have not. The old pumps certainly couldn't round…their readouts functioned like a clock. Clocks don't round to the next hour after the minute hand passes 6.

It's the same thing you see in the summer. Let's say it's 99 degrees outside. People would say, "yeah it's warm but not too bad". Then the temp jumps to 100 degrees and those same people are now saying, "Holy Hell it's hot outside!"

It's all just a numbers game to mess with people. I remember when gas stations wouldn't put the 9/10 of a cent up on their marquis. It would just read "3.09". Again, just mind games.

Besides, do you really want to sue for 1/10 of a penny? What would be the settlement? 1/2 of a penny?

Then there was the genius who was allegedly short changed 4 CENTS at a gas station and instead of letting it go this moron decided that shooting the clerk to death over 4 cents was the correct action to take.

Haven't you ever heard of rounding?

If you buy 10 gallons, then the price will go down one cent.

And even if you could sue them, would you really hire a lawyer to recover 1/10 of a cent?

Americans are too lawsuit-minded these days.
