With the USA’s crumbling highway infrastructure problem getting worse, the question has to be asked. How will it be paid for? The inevitable answer is an increase in Federal gas taxes. But the gas tax hikes will be met with opposition. And if gas prices continue to rise, the window of opportunity may close. Last week was the first week in the past nine weeks that the nationwide average for gasoline prices rose. The national average for regular gas is around $2.50 per gallon, which is still 70 cents lower than it was a year ago. However, most analysts are predicting oil to continue to rise for the remainder of this year.
